Established by an Act of Parliament (Notification No. 225 of 1916), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a premier institution in Varanasi renowned for its excellence in education and innovation. It was founded through the initiative of Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya with the support of Dr. Annie Besant.
